How to make Epic Steak & Potato Burrito

The Epic Steak & Potato Burrito features all your favorite loaded baked potato flavours, layered with freshly grilled carne asada, Del Taco's famous Crinkle-Cut Fries, tangy chipotle sauce, crisp bacon, freshly grated cheddar cheese and cool sour cream.

 

If you are bit lazy and do not want to reach the chain to avail this menu, you can prepare this recipe at home by following a few simple steps. Before going to the method of preparation, let us know the ingredients first.

Ingredients

The Epic Steak and potato burrito from Del taco features potato and steak as its main ingredients. It also takes a good amount of cheese that adds great taste to the burrito. So, let us know all the ingredients that you need to prepare this recipe at home.

  • 2–3 medium potatoes (about 3 1/2 cups chopped raw potatoes)
  • Salt
  • Ground black pepper
  • 1 small onion, yellow or red, minced
  • Olive Oil
  • Thinly sliced steak 
  • 1 Tablespoon green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 Tablespoon fresh parsley, minced, optional, to garnish
  • 4 oz grated cheddar cheese 
  • 4 flour tortillas (8–9 inches in diameter)
  • Chipotle sauce
  • Del Taco's famous Crinkle-Cut Fries
  • Bacon
  • To serve with the burritos, optional: tomato salsa, pico de gallo, guacamole, chopped avocados, sour cream

 

Method of Preparation

  1. To start with the dish cut the potatoes into cubes for about 1/2 inches. Cut them smaller as it will be cooked in less time. 
  2. Switch on the gas stove. Place a skillet over it. When the skillet is warm, add 1 Tablespoon of oil to it. 
  3. Then add the cut potatoes. Cook the potatoes on medium heat until they become little crispy, which will take you about 5-7 minutes. 
  4. Add chopped onion to the potatoes and stir a little. Now season the potatoes with salt and ground black pepper and stir for about a minute. Cover on medium low heat and let the potatoes cook until they become tender, which will take you another 5-7 minutes.
  5. Add green onion to the potatoes and set aside. 
  6. In the same skillet add a little oil and let it warm. Add thinly sliced steak to it. Stir for about 2 minutes or until it becomes browned. Season the steak with salt, pepper powder, paprika powder, onion powder, and garlic powder. 
  7. Cook the steak for another 5-7 minutes or until it is fully cooked. When you are done with the steak, keep aside. 
  8. To assemble the burritos, lay one tortilla on a flat pan. Add about ¼ cup of the cooked potatoes in the center bottom of the tortilla. 
  9. Add the seasoned steak and finishing with the cheese, bacon, chipotle sauce, and Del Taco’s crinkled fries. 
  10. Now fold the sides over the filling and then with the sides folded in by using your thumbs to bring up the bottom of the tortilla. Roll it up tightly until you get the shape of a burrito. Repeat the same procedure with remaining tortillas. Serve hot and fresh.
  11. You can also store the potato steak burritos in refrigerator for 3-5 days or in the freezer up to 6 months.
  12. To freeze the burritos, you have to wrap each individual burrito in parchment paper and then in aluminium foil. Store all the wrapped burritos in a freezer zip lock bag or an airtight container.

To Serve

To serve the microwave burritos, cook them in the microwave until they become hot or brown in a skillet on medium low heat. Cover until they become golden on all sides. 

 

Serve the potato steak burritos with tomato salsa, Pico de Gallo, sour cream, guacamole, or chopped avocados.

Recipe Notes

You can grill the potatoes and steak instead of frying them in the pan, by seasoning them with above mentioned ingredients. This will enhance the taste of the burrito up to a great extent.

Taste Test: Del Taco - New Epic Burritos

 

The new burritos are meant to compete with similar fast casual options i.e. Chipotle and will be a permanent part of the Del Taco menu. As such, the new burritos range from 14- to 18.5-ounces in weight making them among the largest burrito offered by the chain. The tortilla for the new burritos are also new and are meant to deliver more flavor including "buttery" notes and a "toasty" flavor when grilled.

 

The burrito will be offered at $4.99 each.

 

The Epic Burrito line up consists of three burritos: the Epic Fajita Burrito, Epic Steak and Potato, and Epic Chicken Chipotle Ranch.

The Epic Steak and Potato which is a ball thrown straight down the middle to Del Taco's core demographic. It comes filled with freshly-grilled carne asada steak, Crinkle-Cut fries, chipotle sauce, bacon pieces, freshly-grated cheddar cheese, and sour cream.

Not a fan of the new "Epic Burritos"

Grabbed a couple of Epic Burritos to take home. The Steak & potato was mostly cold french fires. The Epic chicken burrito was made with rice & black beans, not too bad. Next visit, think will go back to regular burritos and tacos. Service is always good here, can't complain about the staff.

Great Steak & Potato

Del Taco is a step up from Taco Bell. They had about the same items, but things taste a little better. I had a steak and potato burrito and it was definitely big enough to fill me up.
