How to make Cool Ranch Doritos Lacos Taco

Cool Ranch Doritos Locos Taco is a popular Taco Bell menu that features a crunchy taco made with premium seasoned beef, crisp lettuce, and real cheddar cheese, in a shell made from Cool Ranch Doritos Chips. This menu item is one of the best selling dishes of the Taco Bell chain.

For preparing the “Cool Ranch” shells

  • Tomato powder 1 tablespoon
  • Buttermilk powder 1 tablespoon
  • Onion powder 1 teaspoon
  • Sugar ¾ teaspoon
  • Garlic powder ¾ teaspoon
  • Cheese powder ½ teaspoon
  • Ranch dressing mix ½ (1-oz.) package
  • 6 crunchy taco shells
  • Canola oil 1 tablespoon

For the “Nacho Cheese” shells preparation

  • 1 ½ tablespoons cheese powder
  • ½ tablespoon buttermilk powder
  • 1 teaspoon dehydrated sweet bell pepper
  • ¾ teaspoon cheesy taco seasoning mix
  • ¾ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¾ teaspoon tomato powder
  • ½ teaspoon sugar
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 6 crunchy taco shells
  • 1 tablespoon canola oil

For the taco filling, you will need

  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons paprika
  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt
  • ½ teaspoon sugar
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon ground red pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon turmeric
  • ¼ cup beef stock
  • 1 teaspoon canola oil
  • 1 ½ pounds 85% lean ground beef
  • 1 tablespoons cheesy taco seasoning mix
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 ¼ cups shredded lettuce
  • 1 cup diced tomato
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

  • To begin with the recipe you have to preheat the oven to 325° to make the Cool Ranch shells.
  • Add tomato powder and the next 6 ingredients to the bowl of a food processor. Pulse the ingredients until they are combined well with each other. Transfer the spice mixture to a bowl. Place one taco shell on a flat pan and brush the exterior of the taco shell with canola oil using a brush. Add the exterior of each shell evenly with the tomato powder mixture. Tap against the side of the bowl to remove any excess tomato powder mixture. After coating each shell, arrange the tacos in a single layer on a large rimmed baking sheet.
  • To make the “Nacho Cheese” shells, add cheese powder, and the next 7 ingredients (in the ingredients list) in the bowl of a food processor. Pulse until you complete grinding the dehydrated bell pepper and combining all ingredients well. Brush the exterior of the taco shells with canola oil using a brush; sprinkle the exterior of each shell with the tomato powder mixture, tap the side of the bowl to remove the excess tomato powder mixture. After finishing the coating, arrange the Cool Ranch shells in a single layer on the same large rimmed baking sheet.
  • Now it’s time to bake the “Cool Ranch” and “Nacho Cheese” shells at 325°; bake for 1 to 2 minutes on each side, or until they become lightly toasted.
  • To prepare the taco filling, mix together flour and the next 8 ingredients in a medium bowl. Add beef stock to this mixture and set aside.
  • Heat oil in a large pan over medium heat. Then add beef to the pan. Cook the beef while stirring and breaking it with a wooden spoon. Continue this process until the beef changes its color to brown, which will take approximately 3 to 4 minutes. Increase heat if needed and stir the beef stock mixture to it and cook for another 1 minute. Add cheesy taco seasoning and cook stirring frequently until the beef is cooked properly and liquid evaporates to give a thick consistency. Switch off the flame.
  • To assemble the tacos, add ¼ cup beef mixture into each of the shells spreading top meat evenly with your favorite sour cream.
  • Place an even layer of lettuce, tomato, and cheese onto each taco to make them even better.
  • Serve immediately.

lovethe doritos tacos


we wanted something kinda lite for dinner so we went to Taco Bell in Lebanon, tn and got some of the freshest tacos ever.l they were great.

Pros: It's a new flavor of taco shell. Ingenuity in fast food. Taco holster.


Cons: The impact of the Cool Ranch Doritos flavor missed the mark a bit. The only thing difference from this and a regular taco is the shell and it's about a 50 cent upcharge.
