- Olive oil
- 1/3 cup finely chopped onion
- 1(10 3/4 ounce) can Campbell southwest-style pepper jack soup
- 10 3⁄4 ounces milk
- 8 hot dog buns (regular-sized)
FOR TACO TOPPINGS
- diced tomato
- shredded lettuce
- sour cream
Method of Preparation
- To prepare this dish switch on the gas stove. Place a medium skillet over medium heat.
- Add oil to the skillet and let it warm a little.
- Add onion to the oil. Sauté for about one minute.
- Add ground beef to the onion. Saute for 3-4 minutes until they become brown or cooked properly.
- When you are done with the meat, drain and return to skillet.
- Add soup and milk. Mix them well, heat thoroughly for about 10 minutes.
- Now divide meat mixture evenly between the buns.
- Layer taco toppings in this order, sour cream, tomato, and lettuce.
- Heat a oven and warm the bun taco a little to make it crispy.
- Remove from the oven and serve hot with your favourite sauce.

Between the beef, cheese, and lettuce, the Bun Taco got pretty messy with everything except the lone tomato slice seeking to escape the bun. The best way to go might be to use the wrapper as a cradle to keep everything nice and tight while you slowly pull it back with each bite.
Other than that, it's the same taco flavor minus the crunch. The beef offers a lighter flavor and less pronounced seasoning than Taco Bell or what you'd typically make at home. The lettuce and cheese were pretty fresh.
The bun is very squishy and soft; perhaps overly so.
Overall, Del Taco's Bun Taco basically feels like a Sloppy Joe but with a taco flair. It's nice, but I prefer the crunch of the taco shell. If you end up wanting to try it after the promotion is over, you can just ask them to make you one as a custom order.

I think this is a very good Del Taco with many choices on the menu to satisfy most everyone. I especially like the Bun Taco. You have to ask for it. It is like a taco only it is on a Hamburger Bun. Both Del Taco and their largest competitor used to have it on the menu but you can still get it. Sometimes I order the fish tacos as they are quite good, too. This location is always very clean and I have had very good dine in service.

Ordered online, canceled order, did NOT receive refund for both!
Well I had placed 2 orders online and canceled them both but the thing is I didn't receive the order let alone receive any type of refund for either of the orders I had canceled! i want "MY REFUND NOW!!!!!

Del Taco Brings Back Its Secret Menu Item, Bun Taco to Celebrate 50 Years
Del taco is celebrating its 50th anniversary in a unique manner by bringing back a trio of old menu items as the limited-time Throwback Classics Menu.
“Among the returning items is the Bun Taco, a hybrid of a taco and burger similar to Taco Bell's discontinued Bell Beefer. The other two items are the Small Taco Salad and Orange Shake.
The Bun Taco features seasoned ground beef, hand-grated cheddar cheese, shredded lettuce, and a slice of tomato on a sesame seed bun. It's priced at $2.25 (prices may vary),”Brand Eating has reported.
It is really very good news for the fans of the Bun Taco as it has been an off-menu fixture, available for some time, which they can still order after the Throwback Classics Menu ends its run.
