How to make Double Decker Taco

Double Decker Taco is a popular Taco Bell menu that saw its origin as a limited-run promotional item in 1995. It features a soft shell taco, layered with refried beans, then wrapped around a hard shell taco, with seasoned ground beef as its filling and cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, sour cream, and fresh guacamole as the toppings.

However, you can top the Double Decker Taco with your favorite ingredients. If you are a vegetarian, then you can put melted cheese on the soft shell, and the refried beans in the hard to make the taco taste awesome.

The Double Decker Taco got a place in the regular menu items in June 2006. A cheesy version joined the menu in 2011 that featured nacho cheese sauce in addition to the refried beans in between the tortilla and the taco shell. On September 12, 2019, Taco Bell ditched the Double Decker Taco dish from their menu.

Ingredients

Double Decker Taco features meat along with exotic veggies as the toppings, which makes the dish taste amazing. If you want to prepare the dish at home, you need to know the ingredients that you should keep handy at your kitchen while making the dish. Let us discuss all of them.

  •  ground beef 1 pound

  • 1 (1 ounce) packet taco seasoning mix, divided

  • can refried beans 1 (16 ounces)

  • â…” cup water

  • 12 prepared crisp taco shells

  • 2 avocados

  • 1 tablespoon sour cream

  • 1 fresh lime, juiced

  • salt and black pepper to taste

  • 12 (7 inch) flour tortillas

  • 2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese

  • 1 cup shredded lettuce

  • 1 large tomato, chopped

  • ¼ red onion, chopped

  • ½ cup sour cream

Method of Preparation

  • Cook the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat, and add about ¾ of the taco seasoning packet to the meat. Cook and stir the ground beef occasionally by breaking it up during the cooking process, until the beef becomes brown and crumbly. This process will take approximately 10 to 15 minutes.

  • Drain the excess grease from the cooked meat.

  • Mash the refried beans with the water in a small saucepan, and add the rest of the seasoning packet to the beans. Heat the refried beans over low heat until you get a simmer.

  • Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F or 150 degrees C. Keep the crisp taco shells on a baking sheet, and warm them in the preheated oven for 3 to 5 minutes.

  • To make the guacamole, peel, de-seed, and mash the avocados in a bowl. Add 1 tablespoon of sour cream, lime juice, salt and pepper to the mashed avocado. Set aside.

  • To prepare the tacos, place the tortillas on a flat pan and spread each flour tortilla with about 2 tablespoons of heated refried beans. Wrap the tortilla carefully around a crisp tortilla shell.

  • Spread about 2 tablespoons of ground beef along the bottom of the crispy tortilla shell. Add about 2 tablespoons of shredded Cheddar cheese on top of the meat evenly. For toppings add the cheese with shredded lettuce, chopped tomatoes and onion. You can also add a dollop of sour cream and guacamole on the top of the dish.

  • Now it’s the time to serve your favourite Double Decker Taco hot and fresh.

Doubledecker taco

Every once in a while I get a craving for the cheap meat that is Taco Bell. I have discovered the double decker taco, which is a refried bean spread flour taco with a hard corn taco inside. The best of both for only 320 calories and $1.99! Well plus that again for the Diet. Staff doesnt generally seem excited to take your order, but hey, would you want to work at Taco Bell?

Gotta have double deckers

Made a quick stop to get some double decker tacos. The cashier had a tough customer ahead of me but handled him well and though we came during a busy time my order was correct and tasty.
